5/31/06 A little better and stronger

Torn Cartlidge

5/31/06

Knee is doing better. I am able to mow my yard waling and riding, complete baseball practices and games without limping afterward. A little swelling still presists on the right side. I am still avoiding stairs.

An improvement 5/27/06

It's been three days since a had a set back in the healing of the knee. With a few days of light activity it is back to where it was prior to doing the stairway thing - not a good thing.

I would strongly reccomend no stairs for as long as possible - I am staying away from them until my knee shows no more signs of swelling.

Done with Physical Therapy

I have been done with physical thearpy for about a week.

My knee had been doing great up until yesterday. I made about 5 trips up and down a set of stairs. The knee swelled a more than it has since surgery. I'm back on the ice.

I did have a follow up visit with the surgeon, who advise keeping a log on the calendar how my knee progress's in a three week time span, along with doing exercises at home.

He stated that if I seen a regression that I should phone his office and set up an appointment. So far it has been a week since I saw him, and my knee has regressed a little. I guess time will tell in the next two weeks.

More physical therapy today.

I was asked how much improvement I am seeing by the therapist. I had to say not much, since my knee has worked very fine since the surgery.

Could it be the Nutreix supplements. I do not know, but my knee is getting stronger everyday.

My sessions consist of riding the stationary bike for 10 minutes, followed by some weight machine exercises and finishes off with manual therapy.

It will be 3 weeks since the Arthroscopic surgery, and I'm expecting to be participating in all baseball practices shortly. Stairs still bring a little twinge of pain. I'm looking forward to this going away.

A little swelling.

I have been doing all of my activities, mowing, coaching, etc.. everyday after working 9 hours, and am experencing some swelling on the right side of my right knee. I will be limiting my activity as much as possible and using the ice pack as well. It has been 2 weeks and one day since the surgery, and this is the most concerned I have been since that time. I'm very curious as to how the physical therapy will go at the end of the week.

Its been two weeks since surgery for meniscus repair. There still is no pain, and I do not expect to experience any.

It seems that if I am able to stay off of my leg after work, it improves a little everyday; but If I am involved in a lot of physical activity, such as 2 hours of mowing, or 2 hours of baseball practice, I do get some swelling and restricted movement in the mornings.

So far my knee has been unable to "predict" the weather as so many people have told me that there knee burns or aches with the change of the weather. I was not looking forward to that experience.

The Nutriex supplements seem to be helping as people are amazed at how fast I have been able to get back on my leg. I believe I will stay on the for awhile to see if there is any added health benefit as I am in my early 40's and would like to stay healthy as long as possible.

I have changed my diet recently by elemenating as much sugar as I can. I have not ate any type of "junk" for the last 2 months. All the foods that I eat contain no more that 30% fat in the calorie count. I have been able to loose 38 pounds as a result. I'm sure this has been good for my knee also.

First trip to Physical Therapy.

Routine questions:
rate your pain? mine is 1 on a scale of 1 to 10
any trouble doing anything? Using push mower makes knee sore, little trouble conducting baseball practice.

Perform movement and measure for Range of Moition - alingment and range of motion perfect; actually my injured knee has greater range of motion than my other knee, according to the therapist.

I'm put on a stationary bike for 10 minutes and then given six home exercises to perform, and put on 2 sessions for three weeks with the therapist.

I did have a concern of stretching and pulling of my knee, but that never happened. Proves that 90% of human worry never comes to frutation.

I still have a little tightness in my knee.

I'm ready to mow the lawn with the push mower, but my wife will not agree to this until after the therapy sessions are over. I'm restricted to using the riding mower only.

One week and a day since surgery.

Everything is going pretty good. I have been back to work since May 1, 5 days since the surgery.
Note: I did have surgery on my right knee.

The first three days after surgery do require resting, keeping the leg elevated as high as possible; let me say that again, as high as possible, this will control and reduce the amount of swelling. I was able to lay on the couch and elevate my leg with a two foot mass of pillows and blankets. I did use ice every hour or so, to also relieve the swelling. ( I did not listen as well as I should have, and did not keep my leg elevated as high as I should have - therefore my knee did swell), I'm told if I would have listened the swelling would have been minimal.

No pain was felt all thru this icing and elevating period. I was sent home with pain meciation, but still have not used any. I would say that I am able to function in daily activites, and work related areas somewhere in the 85% range. I stared driving Sunday, 4 days after surgery. I have choosen not to go out on sales call for at least three weeks and will pass the time behind my desk finishing up old projects and bidding new ones. I am scheduled to for physical therapy this Thursday for 3 weeks - 2 - 3 times per week, and have a follow up visit with my doctor for May 29. While, I am able to completely straighten my leg out, it feels very tight and restricted to bend it backwards past a 90 degree bend.

I have begun taking a supplement advertised by http://sandersclinic.net , one of the many sites I visted before having my surgery. This site offers a lot of insight into arthroscopic surgery.
